I'm Moin Razaq. Before I set up Maison I spent nine years in financial restructuring at KPMG, then Alvarez & Marsal and AlixPartners, going into businesses that were already in trouble.

 

What that taught me

 

Almost nothing arrives without warning. By the time someone like me was called in, the problem was usually eighteen months old and there had been three or four moments where somebody could have said something.

 

Very few of those businesses were badly run. Most just found out too late.

 

Nearly all of them had an accountant. The accounts were filed. The deadlines were met.

 

Nobody rang to say the cash was going the wrong way.

What it means for you

You'll know your numbers early enough to do something about them.

 

You can ring me, and I'll answer so the question you've been putting off takes four minutes instead of four weeks.

And I'll tell you what's coming before you have to ask.

None of that is clever. It's being reliable, being reachable, and caring what happens to your business. A low bar, and a lot of firms don't clear it.

Why I keep the practice small

 

I do my best work for people whose business I actually understand what you're building, what worries you, what you'd do with a bit more room. That takes time and a few long conversations that aren't really about the accounts.

​

Some of those have turned into friendships. It's the part I enjoy most, and it's why I've kept things small enough to do it properly.
